Etymology[]
- The name Ieyasu means "house, home, family" (家) (ie) and "ease, peace" (康) (yasu).
- Ieyasu's surname Tokugawa means "virtue, ethics" (徳) (toku) and "river, stream" (川) (kawa/gawa).
Trivia[]
- Ieyasu is often referred to as a tanuki (raccoon dog), which in Japanese folklore are know to be tricksters.
